Redefining The Annual Report – v1.0

When Johnson City Power Board (JCPB) came to Stellar Studios with the ambitious idea of creating an interactive paperless annual report, we were excited to have an opportunity to usher them into unchartered territory. JCPB wanted to create a memorable experience which would highlight the utility’s connections to our community by featuring some of our area’s unique attributes. As such, all of the report’s featured images and audio are products of talent endemic to our common hometown.

To add to the uniqueness of the production, Stellar‘s developers decided to take a new approach to creating its images. Rather than creating animations digitally, we photographed hand-made artworks before animating them with Flash. This added a level of realism and an analog feel that simply can’t be achieved by computer graphics alone.

This report also features custom programming which allows users to drag a virtual power cord to an outlet and plug it in which, in turn, activates interactive backgrounds. To our knowledge, this type of programming has never been created to this level of precision.

The highly interactive report has since won numerous awards including: Two International Davey Awards, Two International Communicator Awards, Regional Gold ADDY, Regional Best of Show Interactive ADDY, and a District Gold ADDY.
