"I did it in the pursuit of knowledge."

If I had to sum up my experience in a single sentence, it would have to be “I did it in the pursuit of knowledge.”

My name is Barry Hylton, I’m a bit of a jack of all trades developer who enjoys nothing more than learning new things. Leave me with a challenge or a puzzle and enough time to solve it and I can guarantee a result. This is honestly how I ended up in this field. When I was 4 years old, I was given an Apple IIe and I was mesmerized by this magic box. Not being one to believe in magic, I decided that the curtain needed to be pulled back and thus began my journey down this rabbit hole.

Keep in mind, this was before the internet (you whippersnappers) so I had to actually go to this place that we used to call a library and find books on a topic that was but a few decades old. This wasn’t easy in the mountains of Southwest VA, so it was slow going, but by the time that the internet became a thing, I had enough of a grasp in the concepts to run with it, and I created my very first webpage when I was 9 years old.

Dear god it was ugly. I vaguely remember a chartreuse background with white letters and something about playing with my Gameboy on car rides. Anyone else remember those big gray bricks of the 90s? Those were the golden days of gaming days were kind of crappy, but hey, it kept me entertained.

Since then I have thankfully honed my art into something more tradeworthy, building everything from customized WordPress blogs to custom corporate training environments.

When I’m not creating software, I’m usually out running around the country thanks to a pastime called Ingress or occasionally plucking away at whatever flavor-of-the-week game I feel like using to pass the time. If I’m not doing either of those things, I’m usually spending quality time with my wife, Cassie, and our cat, Lumiere (a.k.a. The Brat).
